By LYNETTE SOWELL-STEVENS Cove Leader-Press With the clock ticking until the Nov. 9 recall petition deadline, citizens spoke during the Oct. 6 Copperas Cove city council meeting – some for and some against recalling city Place 3 council member Howard Hawk. The petition committee has cited issues with Hawk’s remarks made during a Sept. 1 council meeting referring to toxicity and negativity, and that Hawk violated the Texas Open Meetings Act with his remarks to citizens.

Special to the Leader-Press Lieutenant Jacob Smith and Sergeant Vincenzo Militello of the Copperas Cove Police Department recently graduated from Class 106 of the Leadership Command College, a nationally recognized executive development program offered by the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas. Completion of the Leadership Command College places graduates among a distinguished group of law enforcement leaders, as only approximately 3% of law enforcement professionals have completed the program.

By LYNETTE SOWELL-STEVENS Cove Leader-Press A series of candidate forums are scheduled ahead of the Nov. 3 election. The Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce is hosting two forums, one for the Copperas Cove ISD board of trustees, and one for the Copperas Cove city council. The forum for City Council is set for Thursday, Oct. 15, from 6-8 p.m., and the forum for CCISD trustees is set scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 6-8 p.m.
