Jail Bed Rental Agreement
Cooke County is making some extra cash by renting out jail beds to Grayson County at $70 a day while they finish their expansion. It's a temporary one-year deal, and either side can walk away with a month's notice.
Extreme Heat Warning
Cooke County is hitting a brutal 108 degrees today, so keep your AC cranked and stay inside. If you don't have a cool place to hang out, check out the city's designated cooling centers.
Animal Shelter Partnership
Cooke County is doubling down on its partnership with Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter while the facility hunts for a new home. It’s a solid move to make sure our local pets stay safe and supported during this transition.
Downtown Infrastructure Improvements
Cooke County is giving the downtown square a tech upgrade with new lights and sound systems. It’ll look great, but we’re still waiting on the city to tell us how much of a headache the construction will be for our daily commutes.
Civil Rights and Community Relations
Gainesville is facing major heat over its racial history and current climate, with protesters pushing city leaders to finally address long-standing community tensions. This could lead to some heated city council meetings soon regarding public symbols and local social policies.
