Emergency sewer line replacement near Bridge and Agostadero
A collapsed sewer line south of Agostadero was repaired under emergency award to OMT Utilities for $66,500 — commissioners ratified it after the fact to keep service from failing.
Agility Cares health insurance enrollment center
The city signed a non-binding agreement with a nonprofit that helps uninsured families find CHIP, ACA coverage, and social services — aiming to keep people out of emergency rooms. A future agreement could put the center in city space.
Building and fire code updates
The city would adopt the 2024 editions of the international building, plumbing, mechanical and related codes, plus the 2024 fire codes, effective January 1, 2027.
Lift Station No. 10 corrective work
A design mistake left an electrical junction box too far from the lift station for the floats to work — a $16,750 change order fixes it so the contractor can be released.
Sanitation staffing and service delays
Trash trucks are still hitting neighborhoods at 7:30 a.m. after 5 a.m. starts, driven by driver vacancies — mostly from pay competition with nearby cities. Staff is cross-training and shifting to four 10-hour days to cut overtime.
Regional animal sheltering costs and rates
New agreements with Alamo, Edcouch, Pharr, Progreso, San Juan, and Willacy County for animal sheltering were presented but held for later action.
Vape shop regulation
A new ordinance targets what vape shops can sell — banning synthetic drugs and illegal THC — and requires new shops to get a special use permit. Eleven existing shops are grandfathered unless they sell or change ownership.
