4 issues in water utilities with high priority
Walnut Branch sewer and water main replacement
The city's aging 24-to-30-inch sewer main running through downtown and across Court Street is getting a $4.4 million rehab. Critical infrastructure in sensitive parts of town.
Water treatment plant expansion and reliability
A new 94-foot clarifier adds redundant treatment capacity and replaces pumps at the end of their life, positioning the city for a future water plant replacement. It's a $19.5 million investment funded through certificates of obligation.
Willmann Road flooding and subdivision drainage
Neighbors along the dead-end stretch of Willmann Road say the area already floods regularly and a low-water crossing strands families after modest rain. The developer's plan routes subdivision runoff through a drainage ditch to Geronimo Creek, and a flood study is still under engineering review.
84-Inch Storm Sewer Pipe Rehabilitation
The giant storm pipe running under the hospital area has failed three times and was the same pipe that broke near the Gbra outfall last July 5th. The $527,000 trenchless repair seals 26 failing joints and avoids a replacement project that could cost tens of millions.
