Library expansion

Library Director described how programming has outgrown the 33,100-square-foot building and pitched a ~15,000-square-foot addition as the most economical path to making the library a community hub.

Friends of the Library president cited 111 adult classes and 194 children's classes and urged the city to join the effort for a larger facility.

Retired Air Force colonel pledged the Friends would raise the majority of the $1.2 million cost through grants and donations and asked the council to formally endorse the project — no money requested yet.

48-year resident and library volunteer said the 20-year-old building has simply outgrown its space and asked the council to begin exploring funding for an expansion.
